DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Draping the pattern for both the corset and the inner jacket allowed me to experiment with silhouettes and make real-time adjustments until I was satisfied with the final garment.
GARMENT DESCRIPTION The jacket consists of two components: the base jacket and the corset. The base jacket is made from 100% black poplin with leather sleeves and a cotton lining. The corset, designed to go over the jacket, is constructed from black sheep nappa and features bias binding along the edges for a streamlined finish. It includes six rows of eyelets.
LINING: Cotton lining
SHELL: Poplin (for body)
Leather-Sheep Nappa (For sleeves)
COLLAR: Shirt collar
SLEEVES: Bell sleeves
Black top stitches using cotton thread
SHELL: Leather- Sheep Nappa
BINDING: Bias strips cut from poplin
HARDWARE: Eyelets used for closure
Black top stitching using nylon thread
This was my first experience creating a garment as structured as a corset, presenting a challenge in adapting it as part of a jacket. Layering leather and poplin was particularly interesting. The use of bias strips along the leather edges helped reduce bulk throughout the garment.
